I want to apologize again (alas) for any delays in getting the last issue out to everyone. We are trying to work out a backup distribution route in the event of foul weather or computer difficulties. I only received one short submission over the last week. There are two reasons I can think of which might reduce the submission supply. The first is that it is spring break at many places across the land and the second is that people are busy trying to get hired. In any event, I do look forward to hearing from all of you during this last week of my editorship. Keep those cards and letters coming. Many thanks, Matthew Hudelson, March Editor for CoYM hudelson@math.washington.edu _______________________________________________________________ Item #2 Using the Combined Membership List to Determine Faculty Research Interests by Tim Howard thoward@math09.gatech.edu Some time ago, I asked if anyone knows of any databases maintained that detail the research interests of faculty at particular universities. Shortly thereafter, I realized that the most efficient way to gain this information is to use the Combined Membership List. For those who aren't aware of it, one can search the Combined Membership List via telnet e-math.ams.com. This is a database containing basic information about the members of the AMS, MAA, and SIAM. It can be searched on key fields (such as institution, primary specialties, and secondary specialties). Once a narrowed list is obtained, containing your areas of interest, the math reviews can be scanned for those authors. Most may already have realized all this, but I wished I had known about it sooner. Hope it helps someone.
