Just in case you missed the NY-Times article (or the recent slashdot story, or the mathworld story, or otherwise heard the news) recent work from the Russian mathematician Dr. Grigori Perelman may prove (among other things) the famous Poincaré Conjecture!

| The Poincaré Conjecture is one of the
Clay Institute's million-dollar Millennium Prize problems.
Those who are interested in a bit of the history might check out this
nice essay by Jack Milnor entitled "The Poincaré conjecture 99 years later: a progress
report".
Wow! First Fermat's Last Theorem and now the Poincaré Conjecture. I wonder what famous historic conjecture will be next to fall (maybe the Riemann Hypothesis)? Ladies and gentleman, please place your bets!
As "young mathematicians" how do we (or for that matter, how do any of our more tenured readers) view the recent progress on many of these "old problems"?
